Strain Name & Effect
It sounds fancy, doesn’t it? Lemoon Cake has burst onto the scene at Seed & Smith and has quickly become a staff favorite. When a bag of Lemoon Cake enters the room, you can’t miss it. The reason you ask? That fabulous pungent smell for one! This strain has quickly become known and loved by not only the Seed & Smith team but cannabis connoisseurs everywhere.
Genetics & Cultivation
Lemoon Cake is a unique strain that is a cross of Lemonge and Wedding Cake. While Lemonge is a less common cultivar, Wedding Cake has become a staple in many consumers’ stash over the last few years. As a matter of fact, Wedding Cake won the 2019 Leafly Strain of the Year.
What about that smell? Lemoon Cake’s powerful aroma has highlights of cheese and mango– a one-of-a-kind smell you can’t miss. During cultivation, Lemoon Cake’s buds grow long but are quite dense. This strain grows like a true hybrid, demonstrating characteristics of both a sativa and indica plant.
Prominent Terpenes & Terpene Profile of Lemoon Cake
b-Caryophyllene, Limonene, & possibly Myrcene
At Seed & Smith, our Lemoon Cake strain cultivation team has undergone testing for terpene and cannabinoid analysis and have identified some common terpenes noted with this strain. If you would like to learn more about terpenes and the entourage effect, our previous blog will help you!
Beta-Caryophyllene is well known for its spicy and peppery notes. Caryophyllene is commonly found in black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and spices like oregano, basil and rosemary. What is unique about b-Caryophyllene is that it binds to CB2 receptors–it’s the only terpene that binds to cannabinoid receptors. For this reason, Caryophyllene is an ingredient in anti-inflammatory topicals and creams. But it gets better! Recent studies have found that caryophyllene demonstrates promising properties when it comes to alcoholism rehabilitation. Research on mice found that this terpene can voluntarily reduce intake of alcohol, leading to the experiment’s scientists recommending caryophyllene for treating alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Wow.
You cannabis aficionados know that Limonene is a terpene that is commonly found in nature. Limonene’s zesty fragrance does not hold back in the citrus department. This terpene is well studied and known to provide a wide array of benefits, such as anti-anxiety, antidepressant effects, and anti-inflammatory properties. Limonene is found in many fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, and more.
Let’s round out our Lemoon Cake strain terpene trio with myrcene. Myrcene is the most abundant terpene found in cannabis but also one found heavily in Wedding Cake. Because Wedding Cake’s genetics have a slight edge in dominance over Lemonge, it’s no surprise that we can detect myrcene by smell and with use.
